A hemoglobin test measures the amount of hemoglobin in your blood.
Hemoglobin is a protein in your red blood cells that carries oxygen to your body’s organs and tissues and transports carbon dioxide from your organs and tissues back to your lungs.
If a hemoglobin test reveals that your hemoglobin level is lower or higher than normal, you may need treatment.
A hemoglobin test is an effective way to assess overall health, and to identify the cause of a number of symptoms such as weakness, fatigue, shortness of breath or dizziness.
If you or your child is suffering with any of these symptoms, a hemoglobin test may help identify the problem.
Lead Testing
Lead testing screens for elevated concentrations of lead in your blood.
Lead is a poisonous metal. In the past, lead was used in paints, petrol, and other household products, and can still be found in some older housing and buildings – typically in paint chips or water from lead pipes.
If it’s possible you or your child may have been exposed to lead where you live, it is important to be tested as you or your child may have inhaled dust or ingested substances that could contain lead.
If you think your children may be at risk, have them tested as soon as possible.
